About Garden City Residents Directory

Garden City no longer has one book that names every household. Useful public sources are held in different places: parcel rolls, recorded documents, election records, and the Library’s historical collections. Garden City Residents Directory connects those official and archival routes so a name, street, or old address can be directed to the right custodian.

Why This Site Exists

Older Garden City directories are only one part of the record trail. Parcel ownership appears in assessment and County Clerk systems, voter access has its own legal limits, and historical listings are held by the Library and other repositories. The purpose here is to identify the correct source, access channel, coverage limit, and custodian for Garden City research.

What the Directory Provides

  • Pages by angle: the street directory (address-keyed records), the city directory (the historical shelf), and the resident lookup (one-person searches)
  • The rolls and offices: assessor, recorder, elections office, court clerk, vital records, the library's local history collection
  • Walkthroughs: how to trace who lives on a street, how to read a directory entry, how to follow a household across the decades
  • Access rules: what New York law opens, what stays closed, and how a records request works when something is not online

What This Service Cannot Do

This is a privately operated reference service, not part of any Garden City office, Nassau County department, New York agency, court, or library. Its limits include:

  • We cannot confirm whether a specific person currently lives in Garden City
  • We cannot pull, certify, or change any record on your behalf
  • We cannot add anyone to, or remove anyone from, any roll or database
  • We cannot give legal advice about a record or a dispute
  • We cannot promise that every coverage year, link, or office detail here is current at this moment

Only the custodian office can confirm, certify, or correct a record. Nothing found through this site may be used for credit, employment, tenant, or insurance decisions.
